Why Lubrication will become Your New Best Friend

Just a little lubrication will make your sexual experiences awesomely incredible.

When Should I use Lube?

All the time! The truth is, personal lubrication has very little to do with arousal; it’s actually a hormonal reaction, dependent on your own body chemistry. But - it can be affected by many things; like hormone changes, medications, medical conditions, smoking, stress, prescriptions – even chemicals in soaps and hygiene products. So basically, lots of stuff.

Do I Really Need Lube?

Yes! There is no doubt: wetter makes sex better!
Let’s face it: Two slippery surfaces sliding is WAY more fun than two dry surfaces rubbing against each other.  And even if you don’t “need” it - lube makes sex more comfortable, pleasurable, and fun. There’s no reason not to pick up a bottle to play with.

Lube will enhance ANY sexual experience, but particularly when there is not enough natural wetness.

When do I need it?

Anytime! Especially if you plan to play with toys or participate in anal sex. You can also check out our handy Q&A post on Are You Using the Right Lube for You???

How many types are there?

Lubrication comes in four general varieties and comes in different weights and textures. Lighter lubes have a natural feel, where thicker lubricant gels will be best for your longer play sessions or for use with toys. You can add yet another dimension to your senses with lubrication that provides you with a sensation effect – like warming, cooling, or tingling. And if you want a tasty treat? Try a flavored lube.

There are 4 types of Lube:

Water Based

This is the lube for you if you’re looking for something that closely resembles a woman’s natural lubrication. It comes in thin to thick textures, is easy to clean up, non-irritating, and safe to be used with toys, latex, and penetrative play.

Easily reactivated with a spritz of water, it’s a very versatile type of lubricant. Along with the basic “plain” types, water based lubricant can also come “levelled-up” with special effects that provide sensations like warming, cooling, tingling, or flavored. Best of all, these stimulating lubricants can also be used internally.

Silicone Based

This is the lube for you if you’re looking for something that lasts a long time. It has a silky texture, never gets sticky, and is great for anal and water play. Keep your silicone based toys away from silicone lube, though. It will ruin them!

Hybrid (a combination of water & silicone base)

This is the lube for you if you’re looking for the best of both worlds: the long lasting benefits of silicone with the texture of a water-based lube.

Oil Based

Here at the Love Zone, we avoid oil-based lubes; while fine for male masturbation, they deteriorate latex and toys!

They aren’t suitable for safe sex because of this (a condom can deteriorate in only 60 seconds), and since they don’t “wash” out of the body easily, oil based lubrication is not good for vaginal sex as it can throw off the pH balance and even cause yeast infections.

So what’s the best lube?

Just remember - one lube is not better than the other. It all depends on your personal preference, and what you like. So try a number of them - It will be a lot of fun, and you will learn what you like best! You may want to get one for each sexy occasion! Read more about which lube works best for different kinds of playtime activities in our post: Are you using the right lube for you?.
